Following
is a description of your anesthesia care as it will be provided
at the Berks Urologic Surgery Center. |
|
Prior to your surgery,
you will receive a telephone call from one of the Surgery Center
nurses to go over your medical history and previous surgeries. At
this time, the nurse will inform you if you need an EKG or any lab
testing. You will also receive instructions about eating or drinking
and any medications that should be taken on the morning of your
operation.
If you have any questions
about your instructions, please contact the Surgery Center directly
by calling 610-685-1044. |

On the day of surgery,
you will report to the receptionist at the Surgery Center. You will
be registered as a patient and escorted to the pre-operative area.
In the pre-operative
area, you will be interviewed by a Surgery Center nurse and your
anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist will also perform a limited
physical exam and discuss the anesthesia plan. Before leaving the
pre-operative area, we will start an IV.
|

A staff nurse will then
escort you to the operating room.
Here, EKG
and blood pressure monitors will be placed on your chest and arm,
as well as a pulse oximeter on your finger to measure your blood
oxygen level. Your anesthesia will then begin.

about types of anesthesia, please click about
anesthesia. |

After your procedure,
you will be moved to the post-anesthesia care area where specially
trained nurses will monitor your recovery and be responsive to your
post-operative needs .
When you are fully awake,
you will be discharged home. |

We attempt to reach each
of our patients by telephone in the day or two following your procedure
to check on your condition. |
